Unnatural selection havok flac1/4/2023 Though Havok aren't really breaking any new ground here, that's kind of the point, so while Unnatural Selection's lack of experimentation might not expand your mind, it does serve up a serious portion of heavy metal comfort food. So the outrage from genre enthusiasts at Havok slowing it down is a legit concern. Bringing plenty of palm-muted crunch, ripping solos, and giant riffs, the album feels like a love letter from the new wave of thrash bands to the old guard, as if to let them know that not only did their music not fall on deaf ears (though it certainly deafened some), but a new generation of bands is picking up their mantle and thrashing the way forward. Havoks previous three releases were unadulterated thrash fast and aggressive, with some degree of memorability that sat them apart from the grey mass of sound-alike hordes, especially their two heavyweights Time Is Up and follower Unnatural Selection. Though thrash may have had its heyday back in the '80s, revivalists Havok are showing that the genre is still alive and kicking with their third album, Unnatural Selection.
